    Wake Up.

    It all begins at school
when they tell you you're useless
and the jobs you get offered
    makes the matter conclusive
for years and years they've been telling you lies
your full potential's never been realised
and then you slip into the attitude of
I make a mess of everything I try to do

    Chorus:

Don't sit around; you've got to wake up and live
Don't piss around; you've got to wake up and live.

You religiously say it's not worth trying
but Christ almighty, do you need enlightening!
I'm not talking about a type of career
I'm talking about just enjoying being here
make the most of your life everyday
and every opportunity that comes your way.

    Chorus:

They've got you exactly where they want you to be
    shackled in feelings of in-a-a-adequacy
It's no fun to hide your feelings inside
feelings you cant understand or describe
It affects everything that you do
    apathy is slowly killing you.

    Chorus:

What have you done?-yes I'm talking to you
    what have you achieved?
    does this question disquieten you
like it still does me, like it still does me
you don't own an ounce of self respect
you don't own an ounce of self respect
    so you're treated like no-one
    what did you really expect?
Well I'm talking to you, I'm talking to you.

    The Mess.

Saturday night smashed out of my brains
laying on the floor looking really intelligent
oh what's news I hear you say
all of my dreams have gone down the drain
It just goes to show I wasnít paying attention
things just worsened day by day
    in every way.

    Chorus:

    oh, oh look at me
I'm as hip as i can be
I'm wasted, just look at the mess I am in.
Spent half of the night walking the streets
looking for a party that never existed
every week is just the same
well we talked about sex but never of love
we bragged about girls with which we'd had fun
oh but the thing that's really sad
    we never had.

    Chorus:

I was brilliant at school but not in exams
my teachers they could not understand
how five years work went to the wall
and then I got into trouble 'cos I got in the way
when things went wrong, well I got the blame
I was Idle through no fault of my own
    none of my own.

    Chorus:
oh, look at me no-one 'round here wants me
I'm wasted just look at the mess I am in.

Down there, they are laughing at you
down there, it is you who's gonna get screwed
down there, they will walk all over you
down there, down there, down there.

    Get up and Fight

There are people out there who make me see red
they're making careers from getting out their heads
competing to be the wreak of the year
    cultivating porridge between their ears
they take, they take and they give nothing back
to a world that may one day break their backs.

There are people fighting in every way
to protect the freedoms you enjoy every day
your opinions have a familiar ring
nothing I do or say will change anything
you say politics are boring, boring and grey
but would you rather see cruse brighten everyone's day?

we can't sit back and watch a whole world go down
Jesus Christ!, take a look around
they're getting away with things we shouldn't allow
we're walking around with our heads in a poisonous cloud.

    Chorus:

Get up, get up and fight
don't sit around whining and wasting my time
don't let them ruin your lives
we've been running away but now we're running out of time.

look I'm being honest with you
    oh, If only you knew
the things they do to keep you down

So you dance though the night forgetting your cares
but when the dancing is over the problem's still there
how we gonna make our nations rise?
    agitate, educate and organise
governments alone can't cause such distress
without the people who let them get away with it.

    Chorus:

    We've been running away

    No Respect.

    Sexual double standards
they make me sick, they divide and rule
well you're second class if you were born a woman
yes, it's so different if you are a male

    Chorus:

No man is a whore; he invented the name
No man is a slut; he feels no shame
No man is a slag; he's one of the lads
No man is a cow; and she knows now
that love can be so foul
and you show no respect, no respect
which makes me feel you're afraid of the opposite sex,
    no respect, no respect
try, can't you try to see behind those lies

I'm sorry if i'm boring you
but your innuendo is really no point of view
what you see here is a warm free-thinking woman
and not the face of a bastard race.

    Chorus:

How,how many times have we spat in their eyes?
    Too many times.

    Agony.

You are the most infuriating person I've ever met
we argue all night and both of us end up getting so upset
    I knew I was wrong
but that raging feeling still drove me on

    Chorus:

and it's so embarrassing, it's so embarrassing
I wish that I could cry 'cos that's all I want to do
    cry instead of bruising you
cry, do what a man's not supposed to do
    in public, on the street
    let ask you something
when was the last time you saw a man cry on TV?
    and it's, and it's, and it's agony

I managed to control myself and I walked away in the end
away from violence or breaking down in front of my friends
    I told them all lies
I said a speck of dust had blown in my eyes

    Chorus:

    unfriendly world embrace your friends
    they're all around you
    for productivity divide your enemies
and you'll keep smiling, you'll keep smiling, you'll keep smiling
and telling me, "ah, shut up you sissy"
    and it's agony.

I don't care who is left or who is right or who's wrong
'cos when I get a bee in my bonnet it's always you who gets stung
    oh what a pain
when you can't shed a tear without feeling ashamed

    Chorus:

    and it's tearing me apart.

    Newtown People.

Newtown people you are so cold
Newtown people they haven't got a soul
But they try, oh they try, yes they try
But no matter what they do it all comes to naught

    Chorus:

    But they've gone wrong
they've missed it, but it is near
161 has got to be around here
    They've gone wrong
they've missed it, but then again
161 has got to be around the next bend
But this town is like a maze
Well I hate to admit it to you
That I think we're lost again

Newtown people you are so bored
Newtown people just don't bother anymore
Well there's lots of youth with nothing to do
No money in their pockets for them to use
But you can bet your life they're all in love with uhu

    Chorus:

When god created this town it was for practice
He then created hell and the fact is
Well it's heaven compared with here
The entertainment is better down there
Why the hell don't the buses run
    We're always waiting for hours
It's no wonder the shelters get done
Frustrations unleashed on the thin metal sheets
and the wet concrete, yes there's far too much concrete in this town

Newtown buildings they are so grey
As if specially designed to suit the newtown, suit the newtown day
Well there's not a bit of colour to brighten up your life
It makes the winter months all the harder to survive
But you know, we all know we've gotta pull through, gotta pull through

Does Anyone Know Where The March Is?

Does anyone know where the march is?
    We've been searching for hours
We couldn't get the generator started
We were on the back of a lorry
But with no power we had no sound
While we were tackling the problem
The march moved off and disappeared into town

    Chorus:
Oh where did it go, god knows
It could have been worse I suppose
    Just look at us
We're standing here in our rebel clothes
Singing rebel songs with a rebel pose
We were waiting for the traffic to clear
    Stuck outside of Tesco's

Does anyone know where the march is?
    We bellowed at the passers-by
They thought we were a bunch of crazies, no reply
We saw a kid clutching a leaflet
Oh this is where the march must have been
She told us we were all stupid,
It was causing the traffic jam that we were in

    Chorus

    A band with a message
    Going no-where
So we played to the shoppers
In the end we didn't care, we didn't care
They said "what's this, what's this, oh how subversive

    Life In Their Hands

    Hello there
    It's been a long time
What's this I've heard on the grapevine?
    Oh is it true
    You're not telling lies,
Let's talk some more when we get inside

    The sound system
    Was playing real loud
The rhythms were hard the message was proud
    Oh how we danced
    'till it turned bad
Because my drink, it slipped out of my hand

But then a bouncer pulled me aside
    And before I could apologise
He said something about a joke
That I made at the door
I hadn't wished to offend him
But that search was something more

    I overheard them
    One night in a pub
They talked about the fun they had working in the clubs
    Oh and the tales
Made my hair stand on end
What type of man would employ these three men?
    Check it, Check it

Well out of the dark there now stared
    Six unblinking eyes
    Which followed me everywhere
    I shan't relax tonight
But what's worrying me the most
Is how the hell I get outside without bumping into them

    They said,

    Chorus:
You can dance if you like pal
You can drink if you like
But don't step out of line 'cos your life is in our hands

    Chorus repeated twice

    My Death.

Once again my mind is in a mess
    a general feeling of worthlessness
that draws me to the darker side of life
all of my friends, everyone that Iíve met
I feel a compulsive need to impress
so I may feel someone's on my side

    Chorus:

    Hold me, love me,
stay with me until my death, my death,
sometimes I feel Iím pushing boulders
    up a mountain side

sometimes when I wake I feel like a king
but by mid-afternoon I know Iím nothing
without that constant reassurance throughout the day
no man is an island when it comes to his needs
but he tramples on others to satisfy these
oh God, some of the games we play

    Chorus:

I'd love to pick a strawberry while Iím hanging from this ledge.
Dreamt I surrendered to a merciless sea
tired, so tired of it battering me
" I'm just as puzzled now as you"
that may be so but you still cling to the raft
    terrified of the infinite dark
we're all just frightened people cowering from ourselves

I'd like to live for the moment, live for today
and savour any pleasures that come my way
but how can I do that when my in-growing toenail is killing me?

today is dull, thatís what we're told
we live for an expectation or a memory.

    Chorus:

We're all just frightened people cowering from ourselves.

    Living With Unemployment.

I was living in a newtown
I had problems with my parents
So I moved on up to London town
Where they said that things were happening, going down

    Chorus:

    Living in a bedsit
    Bunking the tube trains
    Sleeping all day long
And you know no one, cos you don't go out,
    cos you've got no work
    You just watch television
    Living with unemployment

I, I ain't got a job, and, there's no work in the city
They, they always try to blame it on the blacks
But it's really those in power that stab you in the back

    Chorus

Well 'round our way, we ain't got a lot
but after two years on the dole, I felt I'd been left to rot
but now I've joined the Army and, believe it or not
I'm going to Northern Ireland and, I'm going to get shot!

    Chorus

Living with unemployment oh you get so lonely
    Living with unemployment
    It gets so frustrating
    Living with unemployment
And the Neurotics wanna tell you, what it's like to be
Unemployed, out of work, unemployed, out of work (repeat)

"Try to stay, out of trouble dear..."

    And It's lonely for you
    And it's lonely for me
And It's lonely for all of us - can't you see?

    Chorus

    Living with unemployment
    Oh you get so lonely
    Living with unemployment
    It gets so frustrating
Living with unemployment - living without

    When you're out of work
    They treat you like dirt
I said, when you're out of work
    They treat you like dirt

It's all part of the plan (8)
    We are the scroungers (4)
